Nihn Bihn

Upon arrival, we discovered Nihn Binh had no trains leaving that day, so we checked into a $ 6 hotel, followed by two middle aged French couples, gregarious and clueless, who had been in North Vietnam 2 weeks and were as impressed with the place as we were. For that money, I had my own bathroom with flushing toilet, shower and hot water in a clean, if smoky (in spite of the sign forbidding it) and cramped room; all would be lacking in my $ 8 unpleasant first night in Thailand room. And even in my $ 14, not really clean or very pleasant room right over the sea where I am writing this, I do not have a flushing toilet or hot water; I shave with hambient temperature water, though that means over 90 degrees F, about 30 degrees more than in Nihn Bihn.

Nihn Bihn was not particularly special, or unpleasant, the only thing I cared for was getting further along my quest for hot weather. I had a pleasant, relaxing evening and the next day we travelled on the train to Danang
