Many temples are functioning shrines (real or purported for financial gain, but the stakes seem so small that it is hard not to believe an outpour of synchertic devotion) and since their construction there was en effort for inclusiveness, often the iconography is from Ayurvedica as well as Buddhist, the two seem to get perfectly along, as in separate instances one follows or predates the other, in terms of ruling sovereigns' allegiance (or successive conversion) to one religion or the other.
