At my second posting, I realized that my diffidence of blogs is not just idyosincratic: I tried to make it so that the first posting would always be on top, but found it impossible. After perusing several derisive messages posted on “help” bullettin boards by people who had asked the same question, I realized that the intent of a blog is the exact opposite of what I ma trying to do: it will create the reverse of the record I mean to make accessible to my relations, in chronoloical order, as I was educated in the Humanist tradition. A blog is interested only in the eternally changing last word: the record is irrelevant is just what floats best, in the best tradition of yellow political journalism and character assassination. I am trying to pervert this mechanism by default, but mostly I would just like my friends and relations to be able to see/read my adventure; lamentably, if they want to, they’ll have to do it starting from the bottom, with the very frustrating mechanism of scrolling down, then up to the next entry, then down, then up to the next one and so on. It is also true that, having started so late in the trip, this will be inevitably a non linear account. Andmore so, as the photo editing and publishing backlog is enormous: I will be posting pictures from the Philippines for a while. These entry are images of the pig roast in the mountains that Ken’s friend (and now mine) Kiting took me to at his friend’s,
